About TeamSport Mitcham

TeamSport Mitcham occupies Unit 18 of the Mitcham Industrial Estate off Streatham Road, and it is the largest of TeamSport’s London circuits by track complexity. The 800-metre multi-level layout is one of the longest indoor tracks in the country, wrapped by a full mezzanine and with room for seventeen karts on circuit at once. It is a single-activity venue built around racing, with a bar and restaurant on site for afterwards, and it serves South London and the Surrey border.

The Track

Eight hundred metres across multiple levels, with twenty-one corners and karts reaching 45mph. The corner count is what sets it apart: TeamSport’s other 800-metre London circuit at Docklands has nine, so Mitcham packs more than twice the technical content into the same distance. That makes it a busier, more demanding lap that rewards precision over outright speed. The mezzanine runs around the venue, so the racing can be followed from above for most of the circuit.

A Bigger Grid

Up to seventeen karts can run on track at the same time. Most indoor circuits cap a grid at around ten, so a full Mitcham session puts noticeably more traffic on circuit. For a large group it means everyone races together rather than being split across heats, and for a competitive session it means more overtaking and more to think about. For a nervous first-timer, it is worth knowing the track will be busier than average.

The Karts

The fleet is fully electric, with separate adult and cadet karts. Adult karts have adjustable seats and pedals and an F1-style steering wheel; the cadet karts have adjustable steering and additional protective bodywork. Adult karts reach 45mph while junior karts are capped at 25mph. The venue names its kart models inconsistently across its own pages, so no specific model is stated here — anyone wanting the exact specification should ask at the venue.

Age and Size Requirements

Karting starts at age 8, with a minimum inside leg measurement of 25 inches taken from crotch to heel with shoes on. There is no maximum height for the cadet karts, but drivers must be under 5ft 4in to be held safely in them. Adult karts require a minimum age of 13 and an inside leg of at least 29 inches. Anyone booking for a child near one of those measurements should check before travelling.

Racing Experiences

The Ultimate Race Experience is open from age 8 and runs two sessions on the main track, starting from the pit lane with the fastest lap taking the win. The Grand Prix is a full motorsport format for ages 16 and over with a minimum of six drivers, running qualifying followed by a grid start and finishing with a podium presentation. Corporate days, stag and hen groups, birthday parties and large group bookings are handled by the events team. Podium presentations can be upgraded with medals, trophies or branded caps.

On the Day

Drivers should arrive 40 minutes before their drive time. Race suits, gloves and helmets are provided along with a safety briefing. A balaclava is required and can be bought at the venue for £3.99 if you do not have your own. Shoes must cover the whole foot, so heels, sandals and open-toed footwear are not permitted. Long hair needs tying up and tucking into the race suit, and scarves, sashes and jewellery must be removed. Sessions can sometimes be extended on the day for a small charge if the schedule allows. Booking ahead is recommended, particularly at weekends when the venue fills quickly.

Planning Your Visit

There is free parking in the venue’s own car park, directly outside Unit 18, with disabled parking on site. By road the venue is reached through the Mitcham Industrial Estate off Streatham Road and is clearly signposted. The nearest bus stops are on St James Road, served by the 127 and 201 and directly outside the industrial estate. Tooting is about a twelve-minute walk and Mitcham Eastfields about fourteen, both on Southern and Thameslink services. Tooting Broadway and Colliers Wood are the nearest Underground stations on the Northern line, roughly a thirty-minute walk or a short cab ride. Spectating is free and needs no booking, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
