TeamSport Crawley sits on Gatwick Road, a few minutes from Gatwick Airport and just off junction 10 of the M23. It is a single-activity karting venue and the most unusual circuit in TeamSport’s southern group: the track climbs through three separate floors of the building rather than the two levels found at most indoor venues. That makes it a genuine destination for anyone in West Sussex, Surrey or South London willing to travel for a bigger track.

The circuit covers 750 metres spread across three floors, combining tight bends, long straights for building speed and a banked corner that lets drivers carry momentum through a turn they would otherwise have to brake for. Karts reach up to 45mph. The venue publishes a corner count of fifteen. Three floors is rare in indoor karting and changes the character of a lap — there is more climbing and descending than on a conventional flat or two-level circuit, and more blind sections to learn.

Crawley runs a fully electric fleet. Adults drive Biz EcoVolt GT karts with a 45Nm permanent magnet brushless motor, adjustable seats and pedals, and a boost button. Younger drivers use Biz EcoVolt Junior karts with a 25Nm brushless motor and an adjustable steering wheel. Junior karts are limited to 25mph while adult karts reach 45mph. Being electric, there are no exhaust fumes inside the building, which matters more than usual across three enclosed floors.

Karting starts at age 8, with a minimum inside leg measurement of 25 inches taken from crotch to heel with shoes on. There is no maximum height for the junior karts, but drivers must be under 5ft 4in to be held safely in them. Adult karts require a minimum age of 13 and an inside leg of at least 29 inches. Anyone booking for a child near one of those measurements should check before making the journey.

The Ultimate Race Experience is open from age 8 and runs two sessions on the main track, starting from the pit lane with the fastest lap taking the win. The Grand Prix is a full motorsport format for ages 16 and over with a minimum of six drivers, running qualifying followed by a grid start and finishing with a podium presentation. Corporate days, stag and hen groups, birthday parties and large group bookings are handled by the events team. Podium presentations can be upgraded with medals, trophies or branded caps.

The venue describes itself as partially accessible for wheelchair users. There is disabled parking on site, a ground-floor spectator area with views of the track, and — unusually among TeamSport’s partially accessible sites — wheelchair users can access the pit lane. The bar is not wheelchair accessible. The venue states that it does not currently have facilities for visitors with hearing impairments and suggests calling ahead if that is a concern.

Drivers should arrive 40 minutes before their drive time. Race suits, gloves and helmets are provided along with a safety briefing. A balaclava is required and can be bought at the venue for £3.99 if you do not have your own. Shoes must cover the whole foot, so heels, sandals and open-toed footwear are not permitted. Long hair needs tying up and tucking into the race suit, and scarves, sashes and jewellery must be removed. Booking ahead is recommended, particularly at weekends when the venue reaches capacity quickly, and booking online in advance carries a discount.

There is free parking on site. By car, leave the M23 at junction 10 and follow signs for Crawley to the Hazelwick roundabout, then take Gatwick Road and continue through two further roundabouts. The venue is roughly a hundred yards beyond the second, on the right — look for the TeamSport and Burdens signs and turn into Gatwick Goods Yard. If you reach a parade of shops and a subway you have gone too far. Coming from Horsham, follow the A264 to the Cheals roundabout, join the A23 towards Gatwick, then the A2011 to Hazelwick and pick up the same directions. Spectating is free and needs no booking, with dedicated spectating areas at the track. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
