Drivers are asked to arrive 40 minutes before their drive time. Race suits, gloves and helmets are provided, and a safety briefing runs before anyone goes out. A balaclava is required and is not provided free - a reusable cotton one can be bought at the venue for GBP 3.99, or drivers can bring their own. Shoes must cover the whole foot, so heels, sandals and open-toed footwear are not permitted. Long hair must be tied up and tucked into the race suit, and scarves, sashes and jewellery have to be removed. Sessions can sometimes be extended on the day for a small charge, subject to availability.

TeamSport Acton, also signed as TeamSport West London, is an indoor electric karting venue tucked into an industrial estate off Warple Way in Acton. It is one of six TeamSport sites in London and the one built purely around racing - there is no bowling, mini golf or second activity here, just the circuit, the bar and the pit lane. TeamSport is the UK's largest indoor karting operator, trading as Go Karting For Fun Ltd, and Acton is among its faster tracks.

Acton runs a fully electric fleet. Adult drivers use Biz EcoVolt GT karts, fitted with a 45Nm permanent magnet brushless motor, adjustable seats and pedals, and a boost button. Younger drivers use Biz EcoVolt Junior karts with a 25Nm motor and an adjustable steering wheel. Junior karts are limited to 25mph while adult karts reach 45mph. Being electric, the karts are quieter and produce no exhaust fumes, which makes a noticeable difference across a long session indoors.

The minimum age is 8, and the requirement is measured by inside leg rather than height. Junior drivers aged 8 and over need an inside leg of at least 25 inches, measured from crotch to heel with shoes on, and must be under 5ft 4in to fit the child karts safely. Adult karts require a minimum age of 13 and an inside leg of at least 29 inches. Anyone booking for a child close to either measurement is better checking before travelling than at reception.

Three formats run at Acton. The Ultimate Race Experience is open to ages 8 and over and gives two sessions on the main track, with a pit lane start and the fastest lap taking the win. The Grand Prix is a full motorsport format for ages 16 and over with a minimum of six drivers, running a qualifying session followed by a grid start and finishing with a podium presentation. Special occasion bookings cover corporate days, stag and hen groups, birthday parties and large groups. Podium presentations can be upgraded with medals, trophies or branded caps.

Prices are not published - they vary by day, time, experience and group size, and are quoted through the booking journey. Pre-booking is strongly recommended because the venue reaches capacity quickly, particularly at weekends, and booking online in advance carries a discount. Student and NHS and Forces discounts are both available. TeamSport also runs a membership scheme: Social members receive 20 percent off full-priced karting, while Club, Elite and Race Academy members receive 25 percent, along with a free race on their birthday and loyalty points on every session.

Spectating is free and needs no booking - anyone of any age can turn up and watch from the bar areas, and the venue has dedicated spectating areas overlooking the track. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over and cannot be left unattended while a parent or guardian is racing. The bar and kitchen serves burgers, pizzas, hot dogs and small plates, along with waffles and other desserts, and works as a place for a group to carry on after the racing finishes.

Parking is free but genuinely limited, and the venue says so plainly. If the spaces outside are full, permits for the Rex car park further up the street are available from reception after 5pm on weekdays and all day at weekends. TeamSport recommends public transport where possible: Acton Central on the Overground is about ten minutes on foot, with Turnham Green, East Acton and Acton main line all around twenty minutes, and buses 207, 266 and N207 stopping at East Acton, Larden Road. Drivers should note that the venue asks for W3 0RQ in a satnav rather than its postal W3 0RF. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
