About K1 Speed Canary Wharf

K1 Speed Canary Wharf sits at Cabot Square inside the Canary Wharf estate in East London, and is the first UK location for K1 Speed, a US-founded operator with over 100 sites across America. The venue entered the UK market through the acquisition of Capital Karts, and a second UK site is confirmed to be opening at Vauxhall. The centre pairs all-electric indoor karting with eight full-motion racing simulators and a full restaurant-style bar and lounge, aimed squarely at the Canary Wharf lunch and after-work crowd as well as families and weekend groups.

The Karts

K1 Speed races 100 per cent electric karts throughout, a point the operator makes a consistent feature of across its whole network rather than something specific to this site. The karts are described as producing strong torque and instant power delivery without a petrol engine's stalling risk or narrow power band, reaching speeds of up to 45mph on the indoor circuit. Separate adult and junior karts are used, allowing family sessions that mix both kart types on the same track at the same time.

Racing Simulators

Eight full-motion racing simulators run alongside the karting, supplied by four-time British Touring Car Championship winner Ash Sutton. Drivers can choose between a Formula-style car and a GT3 car, racing virtual circuits including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, the Nürburgring and Monza. All simulator drivers in a session are placed on the same server and race head to head, with a Race Director overseeing the session and a Race Control system enforcing standard UK motorsport regulations. A briefing and controls walkthrough precede every session. Walk-in sessions run 10 or 20 minutes; exclusive sim sessions are also available through group event bookings.

Race Formats and Passes

Walk-in racing is sold as single races or multi-race passes: one race, two races, three races, or the Speedpass, which adds a T-shirt and a K1 racing licence to two races. A Family Races pass mixes adult and junior karts on the same track for drivers aged 7 and up, bought in person or by phone rather than online. Each race lasts 15 minutes, and races cannot be booked back to back — a minimum 30-minute gap is required between sessions for the same driver.

Age and Height Requirements

Junior karting covers ages 7 to 13, and adult karting is for ages 14 and older. The venue is explicit that meeting a height requirement does not guarantee a driver will be approved to race: every driver is measured on site and must be able to safely operate every element of the kart, with final approval at the venue's discretion. This is a stricter and more conditional standard than most karting venues publish, and is worth knowing before a session is booked rather than discovering it on arrival.

Leagues and Competitive Racing

Beyond arrive-and-drive sessions, K1 Speed runs monthly competitive leagues split by age group: an Adult Challenge GP on the first Sunday of each month, and Junior and Teen Challenge GPs on the first Friday of each month, all part of a national points competition feeding into a K1 Speed World Championship. Best lap times for the Canary Wharf track are published and updated by the week and by the month, separately for adult and junior categories, and the current adult and junior track records are displayed on site.

Groups, Parties and Corporate Events

Dedicated packages are offered for kids' birthday parties, teen birthday parties, adult birthday and stag or hen parties, and corporate or team-building events, each handled through group sales rather than the standard walk-in booking system. Kids' events require a minimum of 16 racers, while teen, adult and corporate events require at least 20 racers for exclusive use of the circuit. Catering options and dedicated event spaces are available for group bookings.

Food and Drink — The Paddock Lounge

The Paddock Lounge is a full restaurant-style bar and lounge rather than a concession stand, serving pizza, wings, burgers, nachos, hot dogs, cookies and chocolate fondant cake, with vegan burgers, hot dogs and pizza also on the menu. Non-alcoholic options include Coke, Red Bull, J20, orange juice, lemonade and tonic water, alongside hot drinks. A full licensed bar serves spirits, beer, wine, cider and cocktails for anyone who has finished racing for the day — the venue operates a strict policy against drinking before driving.

Kit, Waivers and Booking Rules

A Racer's Pack containing a K1 balaclava and gloves costs £6 and is compulsory for anyone without their own equipment, available on site only. Every driver needs a signed waiver on file, which can be completed in store on arrival; anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian to sign on their behalf. All race purchases are per person, non-transferable and, if bought online, non-refundable.
